EA SPORTS’ NASCAR 2001 TO FEATURE DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

Gamers Challenged to Take the Checkered Flag in the Daytona 500

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., September 21, 2000 - Take the wheel as one of NASCAR’s elite drivers or as NASCAR® legend Richard Petty in hopes of a Cup Series Championship or focus on the elusive trip down victory lane at the Daytona 500®. Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that it is shipping NASCAR 2001 for the PlayStation® video game console. NASCAR 2001 surpasses all previous versions in its graphic presentation, depth of gameplay and new features and tracks making it a must have for NASCAR fans. Daytona International Speedway® is a big addition to the NASCAR franchise and allows gamers to take on the hallowed grounds of Daytona for the first time in an EA SPORTS™ NASCAR game.

“The Daytona 500 is the most important race in NASCAR,” said Kenny Wallace, NASCAR veteran, driver of the No. 55 Square D Chevrolet. “It is a great addition to the EA SPORTS NASCAR games and I hope that the experience I get from racing in the video game translates into victory in next year’s Daytona 500!”

NASCAR 2001 for the PlayStation game has an all-new game engine under the hood, featuring enhanced graphics and improved car physics and computer AI model. The new computer AI model allows EA SPORTS to add the real-life driver attributes and tendencies in the game. That means you might want to give aggressive drivers like Dale Earnhardt a little breathing room or be ready to protect the inside line if you are in front of Tony Stewart or Dale Jarrett or be prepared to be passed.

34 active drivers and cars are updated for the 2000 season, including Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte, Mark Martin, Terry Labonte, Jeff Burton, Jeremy Mayfield, Rusty Wallace, Matt Kenseth, Mike Skinner, Ricky Rudd, John Andretti, Kyle Petty, Jerry Nadeau, Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Darrell Waltrip, Michael Waltrip, Bill Elliott, Sterling Marlin, Jimmy Spencer, Bobby Hamilton, Ward Burton, Steve Park, Geoffrey Bodine, Wally Dallenbach, Chad Little, Kevin Lepage, Elliott Sadler, Scott Pruett and Joe Nemechek. Also included as special drivers are “the King” Richard Petty and the late Adam Petty and Kenny Irwin Jr.

Nineteen official NASCAR tracks are in the game, including Daytona International Speedway, Atlanta Motor Speedway™, The California Speedway®, Lowe’s Motor Speedway™, Bristol Motor Speedway™, Darlington Raceway®, Homestead-Miami Speedway™, Indianapolis Motor Speedway™, Las Vegas Motor Speedway™, Martinsville Speedway™, Michigan International Speedway®, North Carolina Speedway®, Phoenix International Raceway®, Pocono Raceway®, Richmond International Raceway®, Sears Point Raceway™, Talledega Superspeedway®, Texas Motor Speedway™ and Watkins Glen International®. Night racing is available on tracks where NASCAR races at night including Lowe’s, Bristol and Richmond.

“This game has it all,” said David DeMartini, executive producer in charge of NASCAR production. “NASCAR 2001 has stunning graphics, the top NASCAR drivers and cars and a ton of tracks in an all new game for the PlayStation. It is the most complete NASCAR game we have done for the PlayStation, and I look forward to dominating the field at the Daytona 500 in this year’s game!”

NASCAR 2001 also features eight fantasy courses that allow gamers to take their favorite NASCAR drivers out and test their driving ability on the twists and turns of these unique road courses. Five fantasy tracks are user selectable and are set in New York, San Francisco, Hawaii, Kansas and Colorado. While in Colorado gamers will see moving gondolas in the mountains and the New York landscape features skyscrapers with festive flashing lights on them. Two additional road courses may be unlocked with a secret code, and one last fantasy track is available to players who win the championship series.

NASCAR 2001's music soundtrack features tracks from Gov’t Mule, Widespread Panic and the Kenny Wayne Shepherd band. Three original tracks were provided for the game by Capricorn Recording artist Gov’t Mule, featuring two former members of the legendary Allman Brothers Band. Along with Government Mule, the game also includes two unreleased songs from Widespread Panic and a track from the platinum-selling Kenny Wayne Shepherd band.

NASCAR 2001 will also be available on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, for the holidays.
