Check it out: Sonny Vaccaro's EA SPORTS™ Roundball Classic is over the top! All b-ballers born to roll need to tune into the EA SPORTS Roundball Classic on Monday, April 9 at 8 p.m. CDT, broadcast live on ESPN2! Sonny Vaccaro has put together a 22-person roster of high school senior basketball stars from around the country and they are going to bring it -- all the way to the Welsh-Ryan Arena, on the campus of Northwestern University in Chicago's neighbor to the North: Evanston, IL.
You'll also see the man himself, Vaccaro, basketball's guru who started it all back in 1965 as the Dapper Dan, and who founded this nation's oldest and most respected boys' high school all-star basketball game. That's right -- Vaccaro is the tour de force behind it all as the Executive Director of Basketball at adidas® and the voice of a weekly column for Basketball Times, and that's no joke!
If that isn't enough, lots of these all-star ballers from the Roundball Classic go on to bring their skills at the college level and move on to successful careers in the NBA. Given that fact, an outstanding player who is "so money" just might get the opportunity to be showcased on the cover of a future EA SPORTS game! So test your hang time with this -- former celebrated alumni of the Roundball Classic include NBA stars Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, Anfernee Hardaway, Tracy McGrady, Stephon Marbury, Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O`Neal, Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Jalen Rose, DeShawn Stevenson, Antoine Walker and Chris Webber, and the list of super-skilled NBA stars goes on.
Heed the words of Glenn Chin, EA SPORTS Director of Marketing, who thinks this year's Classic will be an event to remember. "Recipients of this honor will be the first in a long line of high school basketball starts that will carry with them the label 'EA SPORTS All-American' during what will no doubt be illustrious college, and for many, professional careers," Chin said. "We hope kids set out at the beginning of each season with the desire to be named an EA SPORTS All-American and to play in the most unique and hippest all-star game around -- Sonny Vaccaro's EA SPORTS Roundball Classic."
This year's "in your face" hardcourt will include some of the hottest, most sought-after senior high school basketball athletes, coming in from some of the nation's over-the-top high schools. Players on the roster have their sights set on some of the biggest hoop-it-up colleges, such as Duke, Syracuse, North Carolina, Michigan State, California, Arizona, and others. Not only will these hoopsters compete in the spectacular Roundball Classic, they will also get a chance to live it up with a tour of Chi-town, the new home of the EA SPORTS Roundball Classic. This "show me watcha got" weekend will include an exciting itinerary, where they'll be dined and treated like celebrated basketball players. In addition, they'll have a chance to take part in the EA SPORTS Video Game Tournament, where they can test their skills in our great hoop games -- NBA LIVE 2001 and March Madness 2001 -- and make appearances at the Northwestern Children's Hospital.
Don't miss out! The 2001 EA SPORTS Roundball Classic will be donating proceeds to a select group of children's charities in the Chicago area. Show your support!
Watch this classic event leading the wave of future athletes towards a better and more successful lifestyle. And if you think you've got what it takes to be as good as these hardcourt dunk-meisters, then show us what you got -- bring your own skills to EA SPORTS NBA LIVE 2001 and March Madness 2001. They're off the backboard! See you on the court.
